Ah, I remember when Thomas Cahill’s How the Irish Saved Civilization: came out, he was interviewed on the radio here in AUS. As a companion book I'd like to mention

Condren, Mary, The Serpent and the Goddess: Women, Religion, and Power in Celtic Ireland, 1st ed (San Francisco: Harper & Row, 1989 ISBN9780062501561 as it lead me to consider the taphonomy of ruins, not just their erstwhile stratigraphy.

I bought the book in Schull, while I was living above Goleen in West Cork, Ireland, on the Mizen Peninsular, I could step outside and see each 'age of' as she frames it, as I walked down to the local shop.
