I've been thinking about your comments on modules. I think modularity is where I came in in the 80s in neuroscience pop science. I was much more taken/distracted with the "outsourcing" of cognition, which is what Mary Douglas is working towards I suspect (at least in my frame, _avant la lettre_ )
